I live in France, and I'm the mother of three kids (6 years, 4 years, and 8 months). I'm a psychologist and a full time mom since the little one was born. Becoming a mom has been a wonderful life experience, but it isn't an easy task. Every day I have to fight against the punishment model I was raised with. I'm trying to change the way I raise my kids because I realized how ineffective the punishment model is, producing a lot of hard feelings against me and a deep sense of injustice, just as it was for me when I was a child. I don't want them to grow up having mixed feelings for their mom, as I did.

I'm creating a parenting blog to share my personal experience of becoming a mom and the way my kids have changed my life. I would also like to share the process of changing the way I'm raising them. I would like to show that it is possible and necessary to change the old methods of child rearing. I recently found your Twenty Alternatives to Punishment on the Internet, and I would like to ask you your permission to publish it on my blog.

I would like to thank you for  your book, The Aware Baby. As my mom was not very calm, I worried that I would also become a stressed mother. Reading your book gave me strong support and understanding of babies' bahaviour. Therefore, I was never stressed when my doughter cried. And I was also able to feel love when my baby was crying or went through difficult moments, as I was able not to také this personally. I have read other books on parenting. Some parts of them were also good inspiration, but overall, if I would recommend one book to someone, it would be The Aware Baby. I read the book when my daugter was born, and I read it now again when she is one-and-a-half years old.

Warm regards

We very much appreciated Aletha Solter's visit to Montreal a few years ago. Her books have allowed us to understand our own childhood experiences and to help some children in spite of the fact that we don't yet have any of our own. For example, our 15-month-old nephew is usually very whiny and has difficulty falling asleep. My husband and I took care of him one day and helped him fall asleep for his nap by holding him and allowing him to cry and scream in our arms. After his nap, he was amazingly calm the rest of the day and didn't act at all impatient or demanding at mealtimes (like he usually did).

I want to let you know how much your work is helping me in my profession as a therapist and as a mother.

I want to take this opportunity to thank you for sharing Aware Parenting with the world through your books. When I picked up The Aware Baby in 2013, my first born son was four months old. This book completely changed my life, and not just as a mother. These past four years have been a fantastic journey, both transforming and healing. The journey is far from over, and it probably never will be, but I am enjoying the ride.

Your books just spoke to me, maybe because of my background as a biologist, like you. The way you present your knowledge and the scientific background was perfect for me. It was like coming home, even though that "home" was far from my own upbringing. Maybe this was what my heart longed for when I was little.
